Alvarez Update: Inter look to hijack Arsenal signing

As we have previously revealed, Arsenal have been hot on the trail of Ricky Alvarez, a talented Argentinian midfielder. It has been known for some time that Ricky will sign for either Inter Milan or Arsenal, but Ricky’s Tweet regarding his wishes to come to the Emirates made it quite clear which way the transfer will swing.

However, Palermo were also interested in signing the youngster, but the club was a far less attractive option than either Inter or Arsenal. Palermo’s President, Maurizio Zamparini has indicated that Alvarez may make the move to Milan:

“We were close to signing Alvarez for half the price they will now pay for him but my colleagues took it easy and no agreement was reached.

“Where he will go? He was going to sign for Arsenal but Inter Milan made a move and that is where I believe he will go.”

This is perhaps just another example of Wenger acting too slowly in the transfer market. The rumours regarding Alvarez have been circulating for weeks, whereas the Clichy to City transfer seemed to go through quite quickly. Granted, Arsene wants to get good value for money, but sometimes that has led to Arsenal missing out on players, such as Mark Schwarzer.

Then again, we at Straight Talking Gooners still believe that Ricky will be a Gooner next season. We have good reason to believe that the Arsenal deal is already close to completion.

Likeliness Rating: 4.5/5

Arsenal should act as quickly as possible when it comes to signing valuable players.
We want good and very reliable players who can deliver the goods and get us trophies even if they are expensive. We will get nowhere if we are looking for cheap players. Please splash the cash before we even lose our own players. Avoid mass exodus of players from the Emirates

Players coming in obviously depend on who goes out, and seeing as none of the midfield players have left at this point it is evident to anyone with half a brain that is the reason the Alvarez transfer has not yet happened. If and when Fabregas and/or Nasri goes you will then see some arrivals. I would have thought this was pretty basic common sense, something in very short supply with a lot of the Arsenal supporters, nothing to do with dawdling by Wenger.

Who comes in does not depend on who goes out at all. How many players have gone out of man u? And how often have we seen players get out of Arsenal with out replacent?

Thanks, you prove my point by quoting Man U. Scholes has retired and needs to be replaced, hence the reason for the interest in Nasri or Modrich. With the 25 man squad rules teams cannot go buying players willy nilly, it has to be planned, There are only therefore a certain number of places available for each position of the team. If the midfield is overloaded it leaves other postitions potentially weak. Wenger is trying to hang on to Fabregas and Nasri and if he does a player like Alvarez would be a wasted purchase using money better spent elsewhere, eg on a centre back. Far better to wait and see.

AW, you should follow Clichy out the door. If you can’t do the job, let other manager do it.

if the reason wenger wont buy a replacement untill fab or nasri leaves…then that means that we will be left with the same crap central defenders untill one or two leave.Surely the situation is bad enough to get quality players in right away?……the cahill and samba situation is a disgrace!!!..wenger should have signed one or both already. He is a nut-job!..his thinking is not logical.
