Poll: What to do with van Persie?

I’m sure you know about the van Persie situation – Arsenal has received a few bids following van Persie’s decision not to sign a new deal. The Dutchman’s statement insulted Arsenal and its aims, despite the fact that we have stuck with him through his injuries and even given him the captaincy. As the skipper, he shouldn’t make such comments about the team. These comments imply he will not stay on at the club, but should we sell him to a rival in Manchester, or elsewhere? Would you take less money from Juve or prefer to get more cash from City? Or should we keep him in the squad and hope he changes his mind? We could even punish him by putting him in the reserves, although that could be a bit harsh.

Make your decision in the poll below. The results will be published tomorrow.

Well, Well, Well as a Gunner for life I will say this – if what we read is true – ManU offer 8million, ManC 12million and Juve 10million they all fall short of the 20Million Arsenal is looking for. I say if thats all they are willing to pay – Arsenal should keep him for the 1 year left on his contract – and let him go on a free – we cant make money from him with these figures so whats the point if nobody is willing to pay up – so to all those clubs that want him – pay up the going rate or be quiet. Arsenal show some balls and say no – 20Million or take the loss when he goes on a free. If he can command only these figures now, the figures will be less next year – and for us its worth the risk . RVP better sign up and stay with Arsenal, these other teams dont want you if these figures are what they are willing to pay for your services, will be less next year. We have lost out on many players thats did not work out. Long live Arsenal. Infact it can work in our favour – no need to sign him up – to any mega deal – nobody wants to pay him big bucks so why should we. Wait till next year give him a smaller deal or let him go.

Everyone, including old favourite Woodcock,is blaming RVP. Nothing could be further from the truth. It’s Wenger or the board. From a high position in 2004,the gunners have slipped spectacularly selling their best players the last five seasons. When will it all end?Wait for ffp? Don’t make me laugh.
As for Wenger slamming MC,he only has himself to blame with his purchases and tactical formation.I believe if the gunners can’t challenge or finish outside the top 4,the fm has to go. Time is of the essence. If the board continue to indulge in him,Arsenal risks being dragged to mid table by season end.By the time the board wakes up from it s financial slumber,it will take many years to regain the lost status, not challenging for trophies.

I believe it’s wenger causing th e mayhem at Arsenal .He shd be replaced asap.
many players have left because they don’t believe his philosophy. It hasn’t worked the last seven years, why shd it work out this season.
As long as he is boss,I do’t think Arsenal can win the epl /fa cup. That is unless he changes some of his policies with regard to how the game shd be played.

United would improve dramatically with Van Persie in their side playing with Rooney. Arsene can’t let that happen for the sake of money that he’ll never spend anyway. Similar situation with City even thought they have better strikers than United. Losing him is acceptable if he doesn’t go to a rival which is why I voted for selling to Juve. I wonder whether he would accept a move to Juve anyway seeing as the wages would probably not be much higher than Arsenal would offer, he’d be playing in an inferior league and he’d be living away from home. Give him the choice of just Juve and Arsenal then see what he picks. If he stays until next summer i suspect that Fergie will bring in an alternative star striker this summer anyway.

Arsenal will sell to anyone who comes in with a bid of £20m.We are Arsenal PLC not a football club anymore. For Kroenke its £20m coming in.

Once again Wenger has come out of this looking stupid.Rememeber he said the RVP transfer business would be done BEFORE the Euro’s.No lessons have been learnt from the Flamini and Nasri saga’s.Why does a club like Arsenal let good players let their contract run into a final year? How many times does it have to happen for the penny to drop

As for Wenger saying we can win the title. What a joke.We are selling our best players to our rivals. We are selling our top scorer yet we havent bought a defender or back up keeper for a defence that conceded FORTY NINE league goals

Nothing is going to change as long as Wenger is in charge

This problem is not caused by Wenger, it was caused by Fabregas and Barcalona. When Fabregas only allowed the option of a sale to Barcalona the club was held over a barrel. Barca did not have to pay top money for him because he was behaving so badly and was not interested in playing for us.

If Van Persie has already chosen and spoken to the club he wishes to join then he must be quarantined and got rid of, but only if the price is right. If not he must be made to finish his contract and leave for free. Even if this means benching him for the season. The danger is that this will become the pattern of events every summer at every club bar the super rich ones who can afford to stand up to the players.

The board did make mistakes last year with Fabregas and Nasri neither of which owed so much or were helped as much by the club as RVP. Wenger tried to hold onto his men and then hold for the right price, it was the board that pulled the plug and took the money silent stan even turned up to make the decision.

The real shame of this situation is that a player who is now valuable and achieving a high level because of the club, who was captain and has seen the improvement when two of our three best players left the club one summer, has seen the team strengthened and has been so disrespectful to both the club and the fans.

Woodcock was right, he has let himself down badly.

    RVP wants to leave.
Citeh, the other Manchester club and Juventus want him.
A bidding war is about to start.
His wage demands will be an important factor.
That will probably eliminate all but Citeh.
Speed is of the essence on both sides to conclude the transfer before the closure of the Window.

RVP has made a choice as he does not believe Arsenal are ambitious enough. He has made a professional decision and I respect his decision. Arsenal have become timid and some of the players no longer believe in Wenger’s model. We are stuck in the slow lane of progress.

So Bountykid wants RVP to leave for nothing, which means he hasn’t got a clue about business finances and how the current Arsenal operate. Well, I’ve got news for Bountykid. Arsenal is a selling club and Arsenal will sell RVP this summer!! It pains me to say that as a Gooner but it is a fact and some of the players at Arsenal know this. Right now, we are in it to make as much money as possible. Just watch, the next captain will be sold within a year or two to maximise their value. I will always love my Arsenal but I know that right now we are not ambitious enough so we will continue to sell our best players whether us fans like it or not. Qualifying for CL is now our benchmark for success. Shame but that is the new mantra for the Arsenal Board and Wenger.

looking at all the above comments really make me think what type of fans are you guys.. this is the same guy who literally single handedly put us in champions league for this season. I mean everyone knows if he was injured last season we would have never qualified rather pretty much I can say we would have finished outside the top 4. Whats RVP’s fault? He just doesnt want to extend his contract because he thinks the club is not moving in a direction that he would like to. Now thats not his fault. He was always a terrific player. If he wanted he could have left last season when Cesc and Nasri left. If you want to blame, blame the board. They are the leachers. They have made this stupid wage structure in AFC. Wenger and the players are just puppets. They dont have any say. How can you all question the integrity of a player like RVP. He always had love for Arsenal and will continue to have even if he leaves. People move on when there are brighter and better prospects. He is 29 and obviously he wants to win trophies. When he spoke with the board it was clear to him that AFC wont be challenging for trophies even this season. So please guys blame the board if you have to blame. Not Wenger and players like Cesc and RVP.

@sen. You nailed it. The Board can’t raise their game or rather they are too scared of trying to compete. 4th place is their new 1st place. It is easier for some fans to blame the players but they forget that players are not fans of football clubs; they only have a contract which can come to end if either party wants to end it. Arsenal are carrying on like a small big club and not a big big club. 7 years without a trophy and some fans are still blaming the players for our malaise. Fabregas, before he left Arsenal said: Arsenal have to decide whether they want to win trophies or to just remain as a football academy. Damning.60466

Agree with you to some extent. Board (and Wenger) should be tougher with these players – look at Spurs, they keep their best players by being tough. We just let them go, let them miss the tours and use the captaincy as a way to keep the best players at the club. But in terms of ambition, we have just signed Koscielny on a long-term deal, as we did with Vermaelen during the season. And we have signed the top scorer in Ligue 1 and a proven German international. The board should be more ambitious, of course, but it’s not like they aren’t trying at all!
