Sunderland vs Arsenal: Gunners injury update – Mertesacker, Koscielny, Jenkinson

Arsène Wenger has given an Arsenal injury/squad update ahead of our FA Cup match against Sunderland tomorrow afternoon.

The match kicks off at 5.15pm GMT and will be available to watch on ITV1 for those of you in the UK.

Kieran Gibbs came through the match against AC Milan unscathed, while Gervinho has also returned to the squad following the African Cup of Nations. However, Koscielny is out for around a week and Mertesacker considerably longer. Carl Jenkinson will return to full training soon.

Gervinho

“He is back in the squad. From the other night, we have lost Koscielny. Everyone else is available for selection.”

Laurent Koscielny

“He had a scan yesterday and the news is quite good. He will be out for hopefully around a week. He will miss the Sunderland game. But he should be back for next week.”

Per Mertesacker

“Unfortunately he has had surgery and we have lost him for a while. How long I don’t know. He had reconstruction of his ligaments. So it will be long term.”

Kieran Gibbs

“He played his first game in four months in Milan. So of course it was a shock to go back to that level. But physically, he is alright.”

Carl Jenkinson

“He is back in full training on Monday. That is good news for us.”
