Abou Diaby’s fine form continued as he marked his return to international football with his first goal for France against Finland. Diaby’s neat first-half finish proved to be the only goal of the game as France took all 3 points from their opening game in the World Cup 2014 qualifying campaign.
A video of the goal has been embedded below. The commentary is in French, but the video is good quality and that is all that really matters.
Abou’s last appearance for Les Bleus was a friendly against Brazil in February 2011. He was included in the squad for matches against Luxembourg and Croatia a month later, but was forced to withdraw from the team due to injury.
As well all know, injuries have marred Diaby’s Arsenal career. Having missed so much of the last few seasons with a broken leg and an anterior cruciate ligament injury, it is nice to see that he has broken his duck for his national team and is getting all of the credit that he deserves. His performances for Arsenal in the opening games of this season have been outstanding, so his international goal is very much deserved.
