Wilshere Arsenal’s new number 10

Following the departure of Robin van Persie to Manchester United, Arsenal have updated the squad numbers ahead of the new season.

The big news is that Jack Wilshere (not Lukas Podolski) has taken the No.10 shirt vacated by RvP, while two of our new arrivals have officially been added to the squad. Santi Cazorla takes over Wilshere’s No.19 shirt, while Podolski will take No.9 (the shirt number that he wore in pre-season against FC Koln). Park Chu Young has been moved from 9 to 30, which was worn by Yossi Benayoun last season, and we already know that Olivier Giroud will be number 12.

The movement of Park Chu Young to number 30 would suggest that he is likely to be sold within the next few weeks. I expect a few other players are on their way out too.

Wilshere on receiving the No. 10 shirt:

“Getting the No 10 shirt again at the Club means so much to me as I wore it all through the youth teams at Arsenal.

“It has a special place for all attacking or creative players. I feel proud to wear it now after some real Club legends have worn it, such as Dennis Bergkamp.

“Now I am even more excited about returning to action and honouring the shirt.”
